Shopping for Wooden Toys in Malaysia

When I lived in The States, I took it for granted that the wooden toys would forever be on the shelves. I could then grab as and when the need arises. Until the moment I started searching for wooden toys, I found they are truly the rare breed in Malaysia!

Aside from eat and sleep, play is an important part in early childhood. Play promotes learning. And toys work to complement the play as well as the learning process. As the tools to enhance children development, educational toys will allow them to constantly practice their cognitive skills, motor skills and five senses.

The next question is what are the good toys?

These days when I walk into the giant toys outlet, the assortment of the plastic toys available take my head to spin! Aplenty, they come in all kinds of shapes, colors, sizes and prices. Also, they make all kinds of noise with the help from the electronic and technology counterparts. And they are all made from – you guessed it – welcome to the world of plastic toys!

Penang One Stop Home Improvement/Renovation Shops @ Juru

Called me outdated about home improvement but perhaps not anymore. Last weekend, we spent the whole afternoon in Juru. To be more precise, window shopping at Pusat Perniagaan Juru Jaya. With the arrival of our new tenant, I guess it is time to revise the latest requirement especially a child friendly home.

Recommended by our friend’s brother for bathroom solution, we initially thought of sourcing for some hardware materials from Sin Jin Da – the giant operator in this commercial block.

Sin Jin Da is a three-story shop lot, stands at the corner, easily notice if one is driving from south. Huge billboards by Rubine and suppliers cover almost every angle of its facade. Ground floor trades all kinds of quick fix for contractors or anyone who is working for home improvement e.g. pipe, valve, water tank, sink, wire, padlock, hob and hood. And first floor is their air-conditioned show room. Occupying about 2000-3000 sq ft (my estimate), this level features a wide spectrum of bathroom accessories such as water faucet in all kind of shapes and sizes. Towel rack of any length, soap dispenser, mirror, toilet bowl includes the kid’s size, jacuzzi, drain cover, and the latest in trend is modular set of bathroom’s wash basin integrated with cabinet. If you are looking for kitchen organizer such as dish rack, drainer rack, sliding rack/larder, they have them all as well apart from the hood and hob.

Study explains that the rise of Yehliu promontory is resulted from geological forces pushed Mountain Datun (大屯山) out of the sea. Coupled with weathering, multiple erosion like sun, rain, wind and sea-wave attacks over time, the limestone rock showcases the stunning landscape of hoodo stones. Owing to the wildest human’s imagination, the enormous dots on the shoreline are called  mushroom, candle, honeycombed, ginger, chessboard, bean curd, elephant, marine bird and even fairy slipper!

Taste of Malaysian | Penang Original Kayu Nasi Kandar

Known as staple food to some Penang islanders, Nasi Kandar is truly a legacy of Penang cuisine! Made popular by the Indian Muslim community, the dishes of Nasi Kandar features the taste of richness in Asian spices, herbs and aromatic curries.

A short walk from Vistana Hotel in Bukit Jambul

Centuries ago, Nasi Kandar was offered by street vendors that walked with a pole and two dangling baskets on one’s shoulder thus gives the name ‘Kandar’. Traditionally, Nasi Kandar is a serving of meat (chicken, beef, mutton, fish) curries and vegetables atop of plain steamed rice.

In the recent decade, Nasi Kandar business took a leap, with many players come into picture to operate in restaurants set-up. So does the menu, expanding over the meals round the clock. With more variety of Indian Muslim food such as roti canai, poori, thosai, idli and capati, these restaurants attract people from all walks of life.

One of earliest players of Nasi Kandar restaurants in the south-eastern tip of Penang island is Kayu. Perhaps it was the first that provided Penangites an air-conditional room to savor the mouth watering curry dishes.

Located a stone throw from Vistana Hotel in Bukit Jambul, Kayu Nasi Kandar operates 24 hours. It had been ages since my last visit. Switch of tastebud, being away from home, then engaged with little one are the excuses. And recently, we revisit Kayu Nasi Kandar with our little sweetheart for breakfast.

Most Nasi Kandar restaurants are clean, tidy and provides great service compares to typical Chinese kopitiams. Serving round the clock with dishes differentiation and variation by meals timing is indeed a great feature. These are the reasons why we always go back. Perhaps it also offers the taste of Penang that always lingers in our mind and made who we are today!

The following was breakfast for two. You may be surprised to see how glutton we were!
