Original Ulu Yam Loh Mee | Hock Choon Kee Noodles Restaurant

The Founder of Ulu Yam Loh Mee

Loh Mee is synonym to Ulu Yam Lama. For the folks who are wondering where is Ulu Yam or nowadays is written as Hulu Yam, this small township is located in Batang Kali Selangor, slightly off the north-south trunk road. Sitting somewhere in-between Kuala Kubu Bahru and Serendah in Rawang, Ulu Yam Lama is famed for handmade noodles in starchy black soy sauce or better known as Loh Mee.

Introduced by our host, the return journey from Fraser’s Hill took us to detour into this small town for Ulu Yam Loh Mee. As we turned into Ulu Yam Lama, driving on the bridge flying over a railway track, it gave us a scenic view of mountain ridges afar – that’s Genting Highland folks!

Thai Sweet Desserts | Mango Sticky Rice Recipe

Exotic Sweet Desserts

If you’re going crazy for mango sticky rice, you have 2 options. One – head straight to Tesco Extra’s  food court at Penang Sg Dua, zoom into the Thai corner, dine and you’d be fine! Not many eateries in Penang offer scrumptious mango sticky rice, but this little Thai’s Khao Niaow Ma Muang deserves to be highlighted. Their sticky rice is soft, blends perfectly with the creamy coconut milk sauce and ripe mango is simply delicious, and cost less than RM5!

Penang Organic Restaurant | Reflections Arts and Nature Foods

Penang Organic Restaurant

No menu, just set meals or sometimes noodles, cakes and dumplings, these are key features of a quaint organic cafe set up off Jalan Burma. Highly recommended for their organic dumplings, that was the reason leading us to find this little eatery – Reflections. Reflections started as an organic and natural food store and today, it is also known one of Penang Vegan Restaurants in George Town.

Living Hall of old house in Penang
Dine in living hall

Of white facade, tucked away in a quiet and attractive residential street opposite Union Primary School, Reflections is a great place if you’re looking for simple, light and healthy meals. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon. Though searching for a parking spot (that doesn’t block any entrance of the houses here) can be a little nuisance, luck was on our side. It was merely steps away from Reflections after we stopped.

Indoor Playground For Kids | Penang Toys Library

Whether it is the rainy season or you just want your children to abstain from the perpetual summer in Penang, you may consider this wonderful indoor playground for kids. A brilliant sanctuary for young children from babies to tween (or even for parents), I-Play Toy Library is the name of a little gem that occupies right wing on ground floor of Penang Children’s Library. One of its kind, and perhaps the one and only indoor playroom that is offered by state-run public library.
