An Incredible Species Called Mother

Mother & BabyThanks to the marketing force, today’s Mother’s Day is much more commercialized than before. Prices of carnations, cakes and gifts are shooting rockets high. Packages of Mother’s Day’s dinner promotion are also advertised everywhere. Is Mother’s Day is just another day for us to have dinner together? I believe we realize how much our mother means to us. Ever think of the evolution of becoming a MOTHER?

Being a mother starts as soon as we graduate from university. The first challenge is to get a decent job. If you happen to study in the male dominance fields e.g. engineering, somehow you have to put in extra effort to prove to your potential employer that you are able to deliver the result. Perhaps, dressing in pants during interview or talking with straight face may help. After you have gotten over the first obstacle, the second challenge will lie ahead. If you are still unattached at that time, you have to juggle with the ‘selling’ strategy to attract the opposite gender to ‘fall’ into your trap. If you are attached, then your parents will be the ‘bugs’ chasing you to tie a knot giving the reason that your biological clock is ticking. Unlike the male species, they usually have the luxurious of time to wander and wonder of what they want to do. It seems that female and male species are using two different systems for time measurement. Okay, let not argue on that. So, the next stage of female life (in a nutshell) is to get married and become somebody’s wife. Being a spouse means you need to take care of the man you married; from his top to toe. Making sure he has clean clothes for work, preparing meals, cleaning the house, doing the laundry and the list goes on. If you are lucky, you may get a real ‘better’ half whom can help with house chores. Otherwise, just pray hard that one day, he will be one! Moving on in life, you and your spouse wish to have the little ones. People say the more the merrier! I leave that to you to experiment. At this modern day, getting pregnant is not as simple as ABC. I heard of many miscarriages and unsuccessful pregnancies e.g. ectopic pregnancy. Like what happen to me last year, I was not aware that I was pregnant until I visited a gynae due to severe lower abdominal pain. My gynae insisted to perform the surgery on that night itself. Thank God that I was admitted earlier otherwise I could have lost my life due to over bleeding; resulted from rupture of the fallopian tube caused by the fetus growing inside it. In another account, a friend of mine has a growth in uterus, but her gynae refused to remove it as he claimed it is not critical. His advice was she is still in the range of reproductive age. So, he said “Go and get pregnant and have as many as possible. Then only, we will discuss about it”. She got the lucky strike. On the following month, she conceived and her son was born 9 months later. Wow… isn’t this simply incredible? Woman sacrifices so much just to be a mother!
