Growing up in Asia, Japanese is a cuisine that I am quite familiar with. Japanese culinary practice healthy cooking without much oil and emphasizing on freshness of the ingredients in addition to heavy utilization of shrimps/fish compares to meats. That perhaps justifies for a pricey Japanese meal. Yet, there is a always a good bargain if one knows where and goes on the right timing.
Upon hearing good review about the food at Midori Sushi from my Significant Other, I decided to gather a group of friends for lunch there. On weekdays, Midori offers a list of Bento or lunch box for less than $10. Each set is served with a chunk of protein (meat/fish/shrimp), house roll, sushi, side dishes besides a bowl of miso soup and house salad as starters. These bento sets are indeed very attractive if you are into a bit of everything. Alternatively, sushi/sashimi combo is also a value pick that treats you with same starters as the bento set.

Tucked away in a strip of mall at the intersection of US Hwy 183 North and Anderson Mill Road, Midori Sushi a small Japanese restaurant with a simple facade. I was greeted by a few Japanese dolls as I entered. The far end is a sushi counter and that row is the first class seats whereby you will be entertained with live 'performances' of their in-house chefs! Occupied by no more than 20 tables and a corner of tatami-seating that can take up to 10 people, Midori is usually crowded on weekdays. Arrive early (before 11:30am for lunch) usually secures you with a seat as you walk in otherwise, you may need to queue up.
Without much ado, I picked the Roll Combination for myself. I was eager to try out the fried sushi - a rare of its kind! Began with miso soup and house salad, then I was served with a platter of two unique rolls namely Phoenix and Rock & Roll. Phoenix roll is a deep fried sushi, the rice is rolled with red snapper and salmon, served with ebiko (fish roe) topping and Midori's special sauce. While Rock & Roll was made from shrimp tempura, cucumber, avocado, masago, lettuce that starts and ends with shrimp's tails. The food presentation was very impressive and I love these cooked rolls as well! At the beginning I was a bit disappointed when I found out that Midori does not serve Sukiyaki, but this superb platter of deep-fried sushi did make up far above my expectation.
Great place for sushi, Midori Sushi has been marked as my favorite for Japanese cuisine!
