Craved of authentic Penang food? Yet don't like the hot environment at the hawker center or coffee shop. But still wish to get a nice and cozy ambiance to chit chat, then 'Roti Bakar Kopitiam' or literally translated as 'Toasted Bread Coffee Shop' can be a good place for you! It serves a wide range of meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner at anytime. Suggested by a good friend of mine to meet and catch up, I never expected we could spend about 4 hours there ordering more than a few meals from lunch to tea snacks! 

'Roti Bakar Kopitiam' is serving a variety of local delights, quite similar to what are offered in the chain restaurant of Old Town Cafe. Comparatively, Roti Bakar's menu offers more choices from toasted bread, cheese bread, sandwiches, noodles, fried rice, porridge, nasi lemak and noodles as well. It also serves the 'Peranakan' aroma of sour and spicy food like Thai Spicy Noodle, Penang Assam Laksa and Mantao with Chicken Curry. Basically, 'Roti Bakar Kopitiam' has almost everything or more of what a typical Chinese coffee shop could offer.

We tried Fish Porridge, Salted fish fried rice, Cheese Bread, Thai Spicy Noodle and Penang Assam Laksa. All of them were great except the soup of newly introduced Assam Laksa was slightly sweet. Their white coffee was less creamy compares to Old Town Cafe. It was more of coffee aroma instead. The smell was so refreshing! 


'Roti Bakar Kopitiam' takes care of both smoker and non-smoker group. If you wish to smoke, take the outdoor seat. Otherwise, indoor air-conditioned seat is perfect for you. Located along Jalan Bukit Gambir road next to USM new hostels, the price is reasonably attractive and definitely a place that I will visit again and again!
