Bidor Food Hunting
For travelers of north south highway in Peninsular Malaysia, one may opt to stop at Bidor, a ghost town that is located north of Tanjung Malim and south of Ipoh in the state of Perak. Compares to Ipoh, Bidor certainly offers the convenience as the town itself is merely 5 minutes away from the highway exit, in addition to the ease of traffic and plenty of spaces for parking.
If you are rather familiar with Bidor, Pun Chun eatery is one the famous stop among the outstation folks. High popularity resulted it to be over rated hence it operates more like a tourist spot that serves visitors less of its original value. Food prices are steeper than before or comparatively with other local operators down the road.
Aiming to find the authentic food of this ghost town, we stumbled upon Wind Town Restaurant that is located at Taman Bukit Bidor near Jalan Paku, just a stone throw from Pun Chun.
Featuring all kind of noodles, Wind Town’s patronage is merely the local folks, except us. Operating like a typical kopitiam, the business starts daily for breakfast over through lunch. For the big fans of noodles, be it ricestick (beehoon), yellow noodles, flat noodles (kuey Teow) one can ask for dried or soup version. Add-on selection like Yong tau foo variety is also available. Pick one from illustrated menu if you have no idea of how it looks like. Anyway, the friendly operator can guide you if you need to clarify.
One of the most recommended is Prawn Noodle. Hard to believe that the serving of prawn noodle came with 2 fresh, large prawns, 1 sunny side egg, lettuce, BBQ pork and garnished with green onions. Except for the fatty BBQ pork, this dishes is far better than any prawn noodle in Penang. Its savoury soup isn’t that spicy, also richer than Penang’s style Hokkien Mee.
If you’re looking for the locals’ choice, wind town restaurant is a great place to hunt for Bidor famous food. Operated by locals to serve neighborhood folks, it is not commercialized, easy to find parking spaces though don’t expect anything fancy like shining restaurant toilet, glowing wash basin or paper serviettes.
