Back in my hometown Penang, a tangy flavored or fondly known as 'Bihun' (or written as 'Beehoon' at times) is a popular serving of hawker's delight. 'Singapore-style' Fried Bihun (or rice stick noodles) is the name given to this dish but I keep wondering where is its correlation with 'Singapore'? Despite of my wonder of its origin, I love to prepare fried rice vermicelli as it is one of the simplest dishes to cook at home. For us, it is good chance to reduce meats intake especially for dinner. T… |

Bubur Cha Cha is one of the most popular desserts in Malaysia. If you ask any Malaysians on the street, they know what is this sweet dessert. They could even describe very well what it is made of. Coconut milk, sweet potatoes, taros, tapioca and screw pine (pandan) leaves. Bubur Cha Cha is a sweet universal name, used across all ethics in Malaysia. A typical watercress soup is usually prepared with spare ribs. I choose to try it differently, using meat or pork balls. In addition, I also combine with fresh corn and slices of carrot. This is my first attempt but I could not believe it, the soup is indeed very sweet. The natural flavor from the vegetables and pork are indeed mouth-watering. Or perhaps this is what people said 'The beginner's luck!'. I just couldn't wait to jot down in my favorite recipe collections. |

Chinese Smiling Steamed Cake or fondly known as 'Huat Kuih' is a famous cup cake among Malaysian Chinese culinary. 'Huat' - a Hokkien dialect, in layman's understanding could mean 'prosper' or 'expanding in volume'. The traditional Huat Kuih or Chinese steamed cake that I know of is made from rice flour but nowadays there are several variations to prepare it from wheat flour or even self-rising flour. To me, the fun of making Huat Kuih is to see them 'blooming' or 'flourishing' which is rewardin… |
