Breathtaking sunset through 'The Window' at Chisos BasinIf you are visiting Chisos Basin in Big Bend National Park, 'The Window' is a mandatory! Some even  described it as 'the best view in Texas'. Technically speaking, The Window is an opening between two peaks and plays an important role to preserve Chisos Basin's ecosystem. It is the only spot in Chisos Basin where all the falling rain is drained onto the desert floor below through a steep pouroff. There are a couple of 'The Window' Trails that are accessible from the Visitor Center at Chisos Basi…

Catch 'The Window' view from restaurantWhen one is driving into paintings of rocks and mountains, the distance of 6-mile paved road leading to Chisos Mountains Basin seems so short. On the map, Rio Grande Village is on the eastern side of the park, lies 20 miles away from park's Headquarters and 46 miles from Maverick Junction. Secondly, we reserved the following day for Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive and the highlight of Big Bend - Santa Elena Canyon since the weather w…

Davis Mountains State Park camping siteOn last Thanksgiving Day, we arrived at Fort Davis about half past three in the afternoon. Then, we continued driving on State Highway 118 north heading to Davis Mountains State Park. In fact, this stretch of 4 miles from Davis Mountains State Park entrance to Fort Davis is part of Texas Mountain Trail. Located in the heart of Davis Mountains, the state park is the coolest spot in a hot state as the mountain is about one mile high. Occupying a land of 2700 acres in size, the original area of the…
