 There is a saying in Mandarin goes as "Tian Sang Yu Tian Tang, Tian Xia Yu Su Hang" Translated, it means 'up above the sky there is a heaven, down below (on earth), there is a Su Hang, 'Su' for Suzhou and 'Hang' for Hangzhou.  From running a sundry shop at along the canal to frying bananas on a boat, I also came across a butcher and a hot beverage operator at Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, about two hours from Bangkok by road. I was extremely fascinated with thousands of things there. These folks or traders on boats are very skillful to handle almost everything that you can name it and available at a typical market.  If you have watched Rambo 4, there was a scene whereby Sylvester Stallone assisted a missionary group traveling along Salween River to Burma. This was what I imagined when we took a long tailed boat ride along Kwai Noi River. By the way, Rambo 4 shooting took place in and around Chiangmai Thailand, not here! |

 "Toyota car engine!" This was the line spilled out by an engineer who traveled with us to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market in Ratchaburi province, roughly 80 km southwest of Bangkok. Being curious, we tried to look around to check out which boat was selling car engines. Oh, sorry!  Facts in history book were among the first knowledge fed to my mind about The Death Railway. The name says it all. The Death Railway - there were about 50% of 180,000 Asian laborers and 16% of 100,000 allied prisoners of war (POWs) died while constructing the railway link from Ban Pong to Thanbyuzayat during World War II. |
