In Brinchang town, there are more than a handful Chinese restaurants to have lunch. In front of the taxi stand cum car park, among the row of restaurant signboards on a stretch of shop houses are 'O.K. Tuck', Fong Lum' and 'Wai Yat' (Only One). On the opposite road, there is KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken), 'Yoo Hoo' and 'Silver Star'. Most of the Chinese restaurant are seafood restaurants, I wonder where are they sourcing the fresh seafood from. Guess if I ever open a restaurant in Cameron Highlands , the tagline would go as 'Every piece is Green and Fresh, And Serve at Best' ~ Shirley T (TM). Sounds cool, isn't it! I believe there are huge potential for vegetable lovers especially for the ladies who are keen on keeping fit!

Fong Lum Restaurant in Brinchang

After much thoughts and comparison based on the crowd level, we decided on Fong Lum for lunch. We opted for three main dishes comprised a hot plate Japanese bean curd (Toufu), fried mixed vegetables (mixture of cauliflower, green bean, baby corn and Chinese cabbage) and fried asparagus with chili paste and onion ('sambal' as what is called locally). The portion served were pretty small, may be only for three mouthful the most. Taste wise, mixed vegetables and hot plate bean curd seemed to share the same flavor, not much of variety! Talking order in Cantonese, this place is much influenced by visitors from Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur. Perhaps, the local don't patron the row of restaurants here. For drinks, we ordered an apple and a strawberry juice each. The juice was below our expectation, not as thick as I'd expected considering Cameron Highlands is famous for fresh and cheap fruits! Total cost was RM45.80.

For the same price in other states, like Penang for example, we definitely would get more dishes, could be coming with a plate of steam fish or fried chicken. Overall the meal was only at best - average.

It may be a better option to bring along your own cooker with some fish/meat balls or frozen chicken/fish to Cameron Highlands. Only buy the fresh vegetables in market and then cook your own steam boat at the apartment. That sounds more interesting! Try that and let us know! Cheers.
