Reflection | Farewell 2010

In about a week, we are going to wrap up 2010. It is end of the year and it is time we celebrate Christmas again! Last year, my SO and I had a white Christmas in the winter wonderland. This year, we are not going to set up Christmas tree at home since we have run out of space. The great news is the tiny member of our small family had moved from my womb into our house two months ago! Our little hut officially records an occupancy of 3. THREE!

People said two’s a company, three’s a crowd. Literally, I guess this is true for us. I suddenly found that our bed, our bedroom, our living area, our house, our cars and the list goes on a bit too small for three relatively. Despite the truth of relativity, my SO and I are indeed very happy to welcome our new member. It is a happy inconvenience if you were to grumble about it. But we would say it a blessing. The bundle of joy is our life’s greatest miracle!

Christmas Greetings from Austin

This year, our Christmas is going to be rather different.
The first card from Down Under...Thanks Auntie C
First, we are going to celebrate a winter Christmas in North Hemisphere that the temperature may fluctuate between 30 to 50 degree Fahrenheit (2 to 10 degree Celsius). So, does that sounds cool, cold or chill to you? The temperature after all are just numbers which may not be a good gauge and perhaps I have to factor in the wind as well. I guess ‘Sheldon Cooper’ from ‘The Big Bang Theory’ would argue that the words of cool, cold or chill are merely adjectives that describe a subjective state. In other words, each temperature may reflect differently on different individuals based on their personal tolerance. Some where which is cool to me may be cold to you, right? Guess too much of ‘Cooper’ syndrome!

A Journey of Life

The first time I met J was during a bowling outing organized by my fellow colleagues somewhere in 2003. She was
my colleague’s girlfriend then. The second time, I saw her again was during our company annual dinner at E&O Hotel in Penang on the same year. That’s all about her until a year later when I moved to new job, we met again and happened to work in same building!

She was re-introduced to me by my good friends JL and WC. Soon we became good friends owing to her bubbly and
cheeky personality which made me feel very comfortable to be with. Casual, simple, witty, smart, humorous, entertaining, happy-go-lucky…I guess these words do not seem sufficient to narrate her character but at least
describing close about J.

Decision Making | How to determine good or bad?

DecisionDecision. Decision. Decision. We made it everyday whether we are consciously making it or otherwise. We put our thoughts and weigh the pros and cons. Justification may come in for every action we are going to take. Ever thought of the consequences?

We could be making countless decisions without realizing it. In simple cases like deciding which route to drive home or what to put on dinner table tonight.

Life without making decision is impossible. I recalled my former boss saying ‘There is no good decision or bad decision. But is it the right decision at this point of time?‘. The most crucial aspect is to anticipate the impact in the sense of benefit or ‘aftermath’! In IT term, the ‘If Then Else‘ statement! There seems some truth in it unless a decision is made based on emotions like annoyance, jealousy or hatred.

At times, we could be cornered to agree upon something. I think the best way is just leave the conversation hanging so that it can delay the decision making process. Instead of upsetting the opponent and uttering something you would be regretting later, I’d rather take a step backwards. As we disarm, the battle is obviously less interesting at the opponent end and the person may just cool down. Some decision is not urgent but important hence do spare some effort to do some homework before harping on it.

One man’s meat could be another man’s poison. I made a choice yesterday. Perhaps this choice is going to upset a bunch of my old friends (I am sorry if I disappoint you!) but this action is something I will not regret later. Certain things in life are beyond our control. We can plan for the best and at the same time, need to prepare for the worst. Nobody likes to intentionally upset their loved ones. So do you and me.

Postcard and Birthday Card | When was the last you receive?

Nowadays our mail box is mainly serving the banks and utilities providers so that they could send us bills and more bills chasing for payment. Pathetic! What else should I expect? Oh yeah..another frequent visitor is the promotional materials or advertisement. Oh boy! It is definitely not effective on me as I have minimal trust over the content. Please waste no more paper and cut less tree!

Enough of grumbling, let’s move to something excited. Somehow today after returning from work, I decided to check my mail box. This is not my usual routine but instead of pressing the lift moving to my floor, I pressed ground leading me to open my mail box. To my surprise, I received two, let me repeat, two pieces of personal mails.

One is a postcard from a dearest friend who is now on working assignment in China. I know you would be reading this note. It is very thoughtful of you! Hey…it has been ages since I last received a postcard from someone (no thanks to the birth of email!).

To Mothers With Love

Carnation for Mother Day 2009

A beautiful day to share an inspirational story that I received from an email. I love it and I hope you like it too!

A little girl had been shopping with her Mom in Target. She must have been 6 years old, this beautiful red haired, freckle faced image of innocence. It was pouring outside. The kind of rain that gushes over the top of rain gutters, so much in a hurry to hit the earth it has no time to flow down the spout. We all stood there under the awning and just inside the door of the Target.

We waited, some patiently, others irritated because nature messed up their hurried day. I am always mesmerized by
rainfall. I got lost in the sound and sight of the heavens washing away the dirt and dust of the world. Memories of
running, splashing so carefree as a child came pouring in as a welcome reprieve from the worries of my day. The little voice was so sweet as it broke the hypnotic trance we were all caught in ‘Mom let’s run through the rain,’ she said.

‘What?’ Mom asked
‘Lets run through the rain!’ She repeated.
‘No, honey. We’ll wait until it slows down a bit,’ Mom replied.
This young child waited about another minute and repeated: ‘Mom, let’s run through the rain,’
‘We’ll get soaked if we do,’ Mom said.
‘No, we won’t, Mom. That’s not what you said this morning,’ the young girl said as she tugged at her Mom’s arm.

This morning? When did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet?
‘Don’t you remember? When you were talking to Daddy about his cancer, you said, ‘If God can get us through this, he can get us through anything!’

The entire crowd stopped dead silent. I swear you couldn’t hear anything but the rain. We all stood silently. No one came or left in the next few minutes.

Mom paused and thought for a moment about what she would say. Now some would laugh it off and scold her for being silly. Some might even ignore what was said. But this was a moment of affirmation in a young child’s life. A time
when innocent trust can be nurtured so that it will bloom into faith.

Honey, you are absolutely right. Let’s run through the rain. If GOD let’s us get wet, well maybe we just needed washing,’ Mom said.

Then off they ran. We all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they darted past the cars and yes, through the
puddles. They held their shopping bags over their heads just in case. They got soaked. But they were followed by a
few who screamed and laughed like children all the way to their cars.

And yes, I did. I ran. I got wet. I needed washing.

Circumstances or people can take away your material possessions, they can take away your money, and they can take
away your health. But no one can ever take away your precious memories…So, don’t forget to make time and take the opportunities to make memories everyday. To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven.

The Miracle of Facebook

I started a Facebook account some years back as I was invited by a friend (who resides in Beijing) to view his latest photos online. Last few months, being curious, I went to check out the faces of my alma mater in the Alumni group. Sigh! Most of them are unfamiliar names but only one that struck my thoughts as her name is rather special. I decided to introduce myself and added her.

And so happen after that, I saw a very familiar name ‘Mary’ commenting on her photo. I couldn’t help but quickly sending a message (in Facabook) to Mary. Guess how long I have never seen Mary? For almost two decades!!! Since we left the boarding school, we did keep in touch via snail mails at the beginning. There was no email back then. Soon everybody was busy for preparing for their pre-U studies, going to college/uni then getting their first job, getting married and up to muddling with kids.

You are my Sunshine, My only Sunshine!

I got this story via an email but somehow it touches me straight to my heart. Hope this sharing with always remind us when there is no other ways, LOVE still prevails. When there is love, there is always miracle!

Warning: Be prepared to get watery eyes!
Like any good mother, when Karen found out that another baby was on the way, she did what she could to help her 3-year-old son, Michael, prepare for a new sibling.

They found out that the new baby was going be a girl, and day after day, night after night, Michael sang to his sister in mommy’s tummy.

My love My Darling – Happy Anniversary!

Have you heard the wedding tune in the church when the bride’s father walked his daughter along the aisle, it will always start with… ten ten ten ten…ten ten ten ten..(and the music goes on and on..)Laughing

Same happens for us except our version is a bit shorter. We only have ‘ten ten’ which is equivalent to 10-10 or 1010. This is a special lucky number that marked our wedding date and today is our 4th wedding anniversary. My Significant Other has reminded me that I have a date with him tonight. Somehow, it is going to be a surprise as he refused to reveal where he is going to take me to although I did try very hard to dig out since last week (cheeky!!!Tongue out).

I have nothing to give HIM except my original myself and a lovely poem specially made for HIM.

Thank you for walking into my life and made it OUR LIFE
You are an ANGEL whom guide me along
             With LOVE and PATIENCE
And your WARM hands in mine
             Our HEARTS held close
             To travel this path TOGETHER
             Today, Tomorrow and Forever!

I LOVE YOU My Dearest Darling! Happy AnniversaryInnocent
Walking our path together
