Count Our Blessing!

In life, we never fail to experience pain. As quoted from Buddha's teaching, First Noble Truth says 'Life is suffering (Dukkha)'. This includes birth is suffering, aging is suffering, illness is suffering, death is suffering; the first four sights Buddha encountered when he renounced the world.

To us, all the things that make us unhappy are pain. When we are in pain, we like to pointing finger onto others for troubling us. Why are they giving us some much problem in life? Why these people are making our life so miserable? The truth is when the imperfection comes into our life, they are actually the colors of a rainbow. Only seven colors will make up a rainbow and not less! Similarly in life, missing a patch of experience may not make us a complete happy human!

I was always mad with my dad when he woke me from my sleep and urged me to brush my teeth if he found out that I had yet to brush my teeth that night. My cousin cursed his friend for being born with good look; otherwise he'd get a chance to date the prettiest girl's in his class. My friend hated his mom for being too strict; insisting that she had to follow the curfew hours; instead having fun and drink in the pubs on the weekend. We were all in pain then, but if life is without any obstacles, it will then be like Romeo without Juliet or Spiderman without MaryJane. These stories might not be another blockbuster!

A friend of mine was born in a well-to-do family with silver spoons. Everything was well taken care of. She went to the best school in town and graduated with a medical degree. Then, she got married to a wealthy husband, living in a double-storey house with a pair of lovely kids. Her life seemed perfect and envied by many. However, her story does not end like the fairy tale which they live happily ever after. She divorced her husband after 6 years of marriage because of another man that came along. Despite her life is not up to us to judge but there is a lesson learnt from this story. If life is a smooth sailing journey without the ups and down like the roller coaster ride; we may not learn to appreciate what we possess. The encounter of life adventures make us wiser as the day goes as. We learnt to live with another person and started to value the strength rather than focusing on the weakness. To err is human, if not we will be called 'God' or 'Saint', right?

We are here on this earth to experience the most out of it. Life could be bitter at times but it is the end of it. This is part and parcel of growing up. Today, my friend teased that I am qualified for a toothpaste advertisement. Though I am kind of proud to hear that but deep in heart I know the credit should go to my dad. My cousin brother felt so lucky for not being too good looking; if not he would be too busy entertaining girls rather than spending his teenage years reading law. My best friend eventually realized that her mom did the best for her otherwise she might end up being an alcoholic and wild.

The twist and turn that came along are indeed the additional spices that flavored our life. It is always never too late for us to count our blessing!
