Garden Style by Shirley T

As discussed earlier in Part1, Creative Floral arrangement encompasses the designs with a specific theme/style. This lesson will bring you to explore a garden style of creative floral arrangement, working with a rare carnation called Sweet Williams that flowering season falls on late April/May. This flower arrangement also leverages on prop which is a monkey!

Concept of Garden Style: What comprise of a Garden? It is basically nature, thus the flowers shall be composed over a spread of area like in this lesson; the oval long container is used. As close as possible to the style, the arrangement of the flowers shall appear high and low in alternate of different height with several colors hue.

Tips for this arrangement: Compose from front view.

Fundamental of Garden Style in this lesson:
1. Focal point - a monkey hanging on tree branch.
2. Primary flowers - Sweet Williams ((Dianthus barbatus) from Caryophyllaceae family. This flower is uncommon and hardly available in tropical florists. Other options include Daisy, Fluffy petal or Fancy (Shunit) Carnations, Roses, Sunflowers, Heliconias (Bird of Paradise)
3. Secondary flowers. In this arrangement, they are yellowish green chrysanthemum pompon. The tone of green and yellow of pompon blend in with the Sweet Williams like natural garden.
4. Leaves or foliages. For garden style, usually a few trees can be simulated from flat leaf parsley. Parsley leaves are reasonably great to cover to oasis owing to its tiny structure yet rather flat shell shape. Gold-dust Dracaena (Dracaena godseffiana) is also added in this arrangement to more variety in garden style.
4. Fillers can also be used. However, existing foliages are sufficient thus no filler is used here.
5. Container shape: oval longish shape of 50 cm length. 2 pieces of rectangele oasis are used.

Referring to illustration below, from top left (clock wise): monkey, parsley leaf, Sweet William, Chrysanthemum Pompon
Material
Getting started:
1. Place the oval container with 2 pieces of 10 cm length oasis. Start with placing the wooden dried branch and hanging monkey. Tie the monkey with soft wire.
2. Next move on to arrange the parley leaves to cover the oasis. Complement with some Gold-dust Dracaena leaves as well. Refer to below - Picture 1.

3. After the greens are filled reasonably, move on to compose the main flower i.e. Sweet Williams. These tiny and lovely Sweet Williams are placed high and low with a spread of colors hue, alternating the soft and dark colors combination.

4. Next, continue to insert Chrysanthemum Pompon. They are placed in-between Sweet Williams also in alternating heights to simulate the pattern of natural garden.
