With the theme - Truly Hong Kong, Canton-i finally made the first debut in Penang. Located at the North Zone
(next to KFC) on ground floor of Queensbay Mall, it is a popular spot to dine especially on weekends. I guess
most of the patrons must be craving of the Hong Kong noodles and dimsum when they walk into at Canton-i.

Serving the famous Hong Kong delights, we made it to Canton-i last Sunday as my Significant Other insisted
that I have to try their Wanton Noodles (Egg Noodles) that we heard are flying fresh from Hong Kong on
weekly basis.

Yes, I have to agree that the Wanton noodles here is much nicer than most of what we have had outside. To my
surprise, there are two steam dumpling which were wrapped with a huge and fresh prawn in each. Unlike outside,
the prawns are usually replaced with minced pork (I guess it must be the cost factor!). Somehow, we did not
fancy the honey-glazed roast pork (char-siew) as half of them were fatty strips.

Rice Flour Noodles with vegetable is a new dish to me. At first glance, it reminds me of Hong Kong style 'Chee Cheong Fun'. Instead of containing roasted pork or prawn, the rice flour noodles are rolling with bamboo shoots, carrots and black fungus. It is good to be taken with the crunched chili.

A few choices of Congees are made available and I picked Congee with Dried Scallop. The congee was well
cooked, indeed very soft and each rice grains were hardly visible. Having said that, the dried scallop stated
in the menu was a bit misleading. The so-called dried scallop served was very little since they were flour
coated and deep fried upon serving.

For desserts, we picked Crispy Bun stuffed BBQ Pork. My Significant Other loved it. It is unlike the typical
Malaysian bun or locally called as 'Pau' as it appears in yellow shade and the dough texture is looser.

Our overall dining experience was good and the service was prompt but I will only go back when I have a deep
pocket.

As food lovers, my wife and I found Canton-i to be an utter disappointment. While the deco is great, the same cannot be said about the food, particularly the use of inferior ingredients (as you yourself noticed regarding the scallops), or the price (not congruent to the ingredients offered).

Canton-i will appeal to those who are easily taken in by the deco, by things-foreign, but true food lovers will see through the disguise.
