Have you thought of who is your friend? Friends are not
simply anybody that we mingle with. They could be our saviors and they could
also be the devils. Associate with the wise, and they have plenty to give and
share. Watch out for the fools as they will be ones leading us to unhealthy
activities. I guess my middle name is Lucky. I was not born with silver spoon
but with golden folks called friends!
When I was young, I loved to scribble down in my friends' autograph book: F.R.A.N.C.E. It is not a dream to visit France one day. Neither it is anything got to do with the country of the most ‘romantic’ city; Paris! (Just detour a bit; I guess it has been always a girl’s dream to have a French kiss in the city of Paris. Little tip for the bachelors out there!) F.R.A.N.C.E. is in fact the abbreviation for Friendship Remains And Never End.
As early I can recall, I had grown up owing to the friends around me. When I was in kindergarten, my friends were my teachers in several folk-games like hide and seeks and rubber band. When I was in secondary school, my friends were my guardian as they were the one woke me up every morning (otherwise, I’d be late for class!), the ones there when I need to get something from town (I was studying in a boarding school and we’re only allow to get out from school compound once a week), nursed me when I was sick and also the ones celebrated my birthday!
When I was in university, my friends were the ones sent me apples or little gifts during the exam week; giving me the courage to strive smart and put my best foot forward. They were the ones that climbed trees with me at night (we were those cheeky folks!). They were also the ones helped to submit my assignment when I was caught stranded in my hometown due to heavy flood. They sang with me in the dark when our hostel experienced the power failure. Their laughter and cry made me grew stronger as days passed by.
I happened to meet up with my friends three days in a row last week. On the first night, I was meeting up with two old friends; my course mate and my classmate. I have never seen them at least for the last 4 years or could be more. My course mate happened to have a twin and to my surprise that neither her husband nor herself inherited the twin genetic component. She concluded it must be the ‘feng shui’ since at least half of the houses on the same street happened to gave birth to twin too after they moved in. I salute both her inner self and physical strength to work, cook, manage and educate the four young kids.
One the following night, I was thinking of celebrating birthday with an old friend whom I had known for more than a decade. Somehow, I got the wrong date (oh, poor memory!). She is a person with great determination and always putting in her best effort in whatever she is doing. Whether as a daughter, as a sister, as an employee or as a friend, she plays her role very well. In her, I see an enthusiastic soul that always looks forward and so positive. I believe her heart is as pure as gold.
On the third night, I had dinner with a good friend whom just came back from UK. Trust me, this lady has plenty of energy. She has both the shape and the brain. She dares to take the risk to experience the roads that less traveled. She is different, yet down to earth and has a good heart for the needy. She is always reaching out to perform voluntarily work.
I guess lucky is my middle name. My friends are like the jewels in my life. Whether it was when I was young or now, they are always there to preach a lesson of life. They are still my teachers today and I will never thank them enough for the symbiotic relationship they offer.
To all my friends out there;
Thank you, thank you, and thank you for being part of my life. YOU are the one that makes me alive! YOU are the one that makes me survive!
