In Ipoh, the food equation says Foh San is dimsum and dimsum is Foh San. Ask any Tom, Dick and Harry on any streets in Ipoh, they could even direct you to this dimsum famous restaurant. Foh San, the oldest player of Hong Kong style dimsum game had just joined his competitors to reside on the same street namely Jalan Leong Sin Nam in the heart of the Ipoh city. With a two-story new building, the elegant Foh San definitely has captured one's first impression. Stand out compares to the other two. It does. My Significant Other gamed for Foh San based on the outlook despite an Ipoh friend recommended Yoke Fook Moon for a better dimsum. Charming and inviting first impression won, I guess!

We arrived early on Sunday morning before 8 am. To our surprise, it was not that crowded as reviewed in most blogs. As soon as we walked, we found a table and be seated. Started in typical manner, we asked for chrysanthemum tea and then be given a chit. It is used to indicate the price of each dimsum serving.
Operating in traditional manner, array of delectable dishes are placed on carts. They are pushed from table to table in the restaurant to serve the patrons. Anyone can pick anything they love to tuck in. This is a value added service that we appreciate since we were there with a little one. Convenience, prompt and the dishes are served warm/hot. Some items though are listed as self-service, the foreign staff were more than happy to give us a hand. Perhaps that's the advantage of having a baby on board! Armed with two hungry mouths, everything was really tempting. Some of them looked pretty new to me, so those were what I picked. This eatery offers way more choices than the typical ones served in Penang. While my SO opted for some typical ones such as taro balls (wu gok), chee cheong fun and steamed bao. Let us check out what are the good, great and awesome ones here.
A foreign taste to me but was not too bad. They are commonly found are served as pan fried.
The must have for my SO. He finished in only a few mouthful, guess must be good!
The BBQ pork is visible and delicious. Highly recommend to bao fans!
Too much of rice flour rolls and too little BBQ pork, though outlook did look inviting.
Wu Gok on the above platter is the best we ever tasted, as if we were biting freshly steamed taro. The dough is awesome blending well with the perfectly flavored filling. Deep fried sweet potato bun and egg tart are average. Nothing special to boast.
As the name suggest, a dessert made from milk. Soft, melt in my mouth and I sensed a bit of ginger on my tongue. Do not expect something sweet.
These steamed chicken dumplings balls a.k.a. siu mai are hardly available in Penang. With all the above, it cost us RM30.30 inclusive 6% govt tax. Restaurant is clean, baby chair is provided and service is above par.
We skipped the complimentary Syuen Hotel's breakfast for Foh San. Did we make the right choice? Maybe you have the answer
