Thai cuisine is never an alien flavor in Penang, but walking into an authentic Thai restaurant perhaps need a bit of help from Lady Luck.
A family lunch date brought us to May Tip Thai Restaurant in Taman Mutiara, Bukit Mertajam. Tucked away in a strip of commercial block behind the bustling main road, May Tip is a not much different compares to a typical Chinese restaurant except for the rectangular shape of their charcoal tables. The atmosphere here is much caters to family crowd.

For new comers like me, flipping pages on the menu offers some clue on what to start with. Pretty extensive, the names certainly link one back to the mouth watering dishes of pungent, tangy and spicy in nature. After I had their Thai food, they are certainly way greater than the images on the May Tip's menu
Armed with 7 hungry mouths to feed, we opted for a whole fish steamed of Thai style. Served the last of all, never be fooled by the clear gravy that looked similar to Teochew style of steamed fish. A mixed of savory-hot, the accompaniment vegetables were generous.
Thai omelet is a must try here at May Tip. Deep fried of egg and green leafy vegetable mixed, I had never seen any others serving this dish on the menu aside from having it in Thailand.
Stir-fried bean sprouts sounds common but it is truly special at May Tip. Of Thai variety, the gravy possesed a tinge of vinegar and slightly tangy, going perfect with steamed rice.
Green curry chicken was equally great. Rich, creamy and flavorful, blended well with the bite pieces of tender chicken.
For those who are fond of sweet desserts, May Tip is also the place to be. If one arrives on the 'right' timing, you could spoil yourself with the Thai's creamy dessert. When we were there, Tong Sui was the dessert of the day. I gave it a shot and it was awesome.
So, if you are infatuated with a toothsome Thai cuisine in the mainland of Penang, look no further. Head to Taman Mutiara in Bukit Mertajam. May Tip is worth our effort of driving across the sea for a fabulous Thai treat.
