To see a world in a grain of sand and heaven in a wild flower
Hold infinity in the palms of your hand and eternity in an hour
~ William Blake

Have you ever thought of composing of a bouquet of flower for a friend's birthday? The recipient will be even happier if the person knows you did it by yourself. It is the thought that counts! For this article, I am going to share a floral arrangement for a joyful birthday. However, it is also suitable to be shared for other joyful occasions like Graduation day, Mother's day, Teacher's day or even Christmas. Two little stars as the focal point for this arrangement indicate a happy moments.

From top left (Clock-wise): Silver/Gold dusted stars, vivid red rose, 'curly tea leaves', artificial bear grass, white peacock and others
Floral Material

Floral Material
A very simple and common combination of some vivid red roses (8 stalks) as primary flowers and some yellow greenish chrysanthemum pompon (santinis) as secondary flowers. These two colors are of dark shades thus white peacock (aster white) was added in as fillers to brighten the floral design. I found a new lovely foliage and thinking of trying for the first time. I learnt that it is called 'curly tea leaves' or Camellia Sinensis from www.flowerseries.com website. However, when I surfed on the net to verify, somehow I could not find any picture that relates to this foliage. Please help me to address it correctly if you have the relevant information (Thanks in advance!). To my surprise the foliage has soft stem with beautiful leaves and allow it to cover most part of oasis though it was a bit soft to insert at the beginning. Two lovely stars sprinkled with gold and silver dust were bought from a local gift shop while the artificial bear grass and rattan flower bowl were obtained from Hot Market.

Design concept
Reflecting on nature, this design reveals a tree and a garden. In another view, it looks like a small umbrella shading a wild lawn in a round rattan flower bowl.  The focal point is right in the middle, underneath the 'tree' and on top of the 'garden'. The sketch below shows what I wish to do from front view.

Sketch
Getting started
1. Compose from front view.
2. Hold the stem of rose and start to assemble five stalks of roses together to resemble like a like a natural tree.
3. Tie with wire to hold them together and cut the stem shorter all of same length.
4. Insert them into the middle of the oasis.
5. Then, choose three blooming roses and compose at the 'garden' spot near the focal point in a triangular shape.
6. Move on to place the foliages forming a semi-circular shape and cover the oasis.
7. Insert some bud of chrysanthemum pompon.
8. Lighten up with white peacock.
9. Use the artificial bear grass and fold it like a circle to beautify the arrangement.
10. A red bow is tied in the middle of the 'tree'.
Stars and roses
11. Insert two lovely stars to enhance the theme - Happy Birthday!
