A flower cannot blossom without sunshine, and man cannot live without love ~ Max Muller

Floral arrangement is not only an arts but at the same time, it is a botany lesson. It is always great to have prior knowledge on the flower that we are going to work with to ensure everything goes well including ourselves! In the instances of Calla Lily, it is a beautiful flower of Zantedeschia species. But not many are aware that they are very poisonous, capable of killing livestock and children. So the next time when you plan your flower arrangement with Calla Lily, handle them with precaution. All parts of the plant are toxic and may cause irritation and swelling of the mouth and throat besides, acute vomiting and diarrhea.

Nevertheless, Calla Lily isn't easy to handle as the stem is very soft and produce a lot of transparent mucus. Wax can be used at the end tip to prevent mucus flows. To have Calla Lily stays longer, the stem must be cut with sharp knife in a slanting manner to encourage water absorption.

Calla Lily in general symbolizes 'magnificent beauty' and is a popular pick for wedding. However in Christian tradition, Calla Lily carries the symbol of resurrection or a new beginning whereby it also highlights innocence, purity and faith.

In this floral arrangement, I call it 'Blossom'. A promise for a new life.

Design concept
Calla Lilies take the limelight being the tallest of them all. Spiking out from the garden below, Calla Lilly lives up to what it means - faith as our towering strength to begin a new life. Calla Lily of five, being an odd number is auspicious and relates to divine strength in Bible study. Orange roses and pink lining carnations are team up to create a beautiful and soft ground for the new life. Blossom is the name!

1. Get a good size of wet oasis and place into the pot.
2. Compose from front view. Start with Calla Lily being the primary flowers. They are very fragile and use a sharp knife to cut the stem.
