FRIM (Forest Research Institute Malaysia) provides an opportunity to experience forest canopy walkway in the midst of concrete jungles in Kuala Lumpur. Photographs are contributed by Grace.
We have been frequenting to Kuala Lumpur (KL); the capital of Malaysia since my sister moved there more than half a decade ago. Nevertheless, all we did when we were in KL was visiting the concrete jungles in the heart of metropolitan. We simply enjoyed the cold temperature in these buildings as well as the price drop seduction especially at the ladies section. To our surprise, our half full luggage would usually be filled with new and hot items found in the fashion magazines. Oh ya… another hot spot, my significant other would never fail to check out his private building called LYP, which is a place that is perpetually having PC/tech fair. In Penang, the so-called resort island where we stay, this event may happen only once in several months and at times, the bargain at this fair can never beat the one at LYP. That’s the reason why the geeks like to visit LYP.

I was chatting with a good friend of mine in Sydney this morning. She told me that it has been close to 10 years that she has never celebrated Mother’s Day with her loving mommy though they do meet for annual holiday and other festival occasion. Her mommy is staying in Christmas Island. Well, she would ring her mummy tomorrow to wish her ‘Happy Mother’s Day’. I told her ‘Distance is only a number; the most significant ingredient is the thought’.

As I was walking home the other day, I saw an old woman sitting by the pavement. Her clothes were worn and stained. Her face was smudged with dirt and her lips dry. Her white hair was matted and plastered to her scalp, it must have not seen washing for a long, long time. She was sitting on a pile of worn, flattened carton box. She looked kindly but her expression had a worn, tired and rejected look.
As each person walked passed her, she would held out her frail shaking hands and pleaded, “Some money for food, please?” Most people walked pass her in disgust. Some would put some small change into her outstretched hands. When she saw the shillings she would smile and bowed her head, “Thank you sir.”

Have you thought of who is your friend? Friends are not simply anybody that we mingle with. They could be our saviors and they could also be the devils. Associate with the wise, and they have plenty to give and share. Watch out for the fools as they will be ones leading us to unhealthy activities. I guess my middle name is Lucky. I was not born with silver spoon but with golden folks called friends!
When I was young, I loved to scribble down in my friends’ autograph book: F.R.A.N.C.E. It is not a dream to visit France one day. Neither it is anything got to do with the country of the most ‘romantic’ city; Paris! (Just detour a bit; I guess it has been always a girl’s dream to have a French kiss in the city of Paris. Little tip for the bachelors out there!) F.R.A.N.C.E. is in fact the abbreviation for Friendship Remains And Never End.

A sweet note to make your day. Enjoy!
One morning the husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap. Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors, and reads her book. Along comes a Game Warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, ‘Good morning, Ma’am. What are you doing?’ ‘Reading a book,’ she replies, (thinking, ‘Isn’t that obvious?’)
‘You’re in a Restricted Fishing Area,’ he informs her.
‘I’m sorry, officer, but I’m not fishing. I’m reading.’
‘Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I’ll have to take you in and write you up.’
‘If you do that, I’ll have to charge you with sexual assault,’ says the woman.
‘But I haven’t even touched you,’ says the game warden. ‘
That’s true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment.’
‘Have a nice day ma’am,’ and he left.

Do you like movies? A colleague once told me of the reason why he liked to go for movies. He said that movies give him a chance to experience emotions and experience that he has not had the chance to feel in real life.
As you watch a movie, you become one with it. You can feel the excitement as the hero battles the enemy, the pride and glory as he won. You feel the warmth in your heart as he falls in love and the sadness and pain as he lost someone he cares for. You feel the anger and frustration as he seeks revenge. At the end of the movie you feel the closure and completeness of these emotions, or sometimes you are left hanging with a question.

Thanks to the marketing force, today’s Mother’s Day is much more commercialized than before. Prices of carnations, cakes and gifts are shooting rockets high. Packages of Mother’s Day’s dinner promotion are also advertised everywhere. Is Mother’s Day is just another day for us to have dinner together? I believe we realize how much our mother means to us. Ever think of the evolution of becoming a MOTHER?

Life is like a candle, when we have burnt all of our allocated time in this world, it will end. However like a candle, a simple puff of wind can blow it out before it’s time. But most of us take it for granted that there will be many many tomorrows ahead of him or her. That is a self-deception. Life, in reality is fragile.
A friend just lost her father as I wrote this. He had cancer and he had only lasted a few weeks after the diagnosis. There is something about moments like this that made people start to ponder about life – where have they been and what they’re going to do in the future. Moments like this makes you realize that life is short. What happens tomorrow or even the next hour is impossible to know. Only God can determine how long you’ll live. But while you’re still living, is there anything that you’d like to do one day?
