Experience can't be bought or sold, it must be felt by the heart ~ Shirley T 16 November 2008 - The date that will be remembered by many especially the folks that run across Penang Bridge for the first time in their life, the champions that bagged top prizes and the finisher medalists! These people had definitely attained another notch in their life.
Organized by the Penang State Tourism Development, Cultural, Art and Heritage, this year, the event took place at Queensbay Mall - a newly established shopping mall in Penang.
Penang Bridge International Marathon is a yearly event, started since 1985 when Penangites' third longest bridge in the world was completed then. Personally, I had registered for the run many times in late 1990s but somehow never turned up. Couldn't wake up - what an excuse! In year 2000, I was determined to complete the half marathon for the first time and guess luck was at my side to collect a finisher medal at last!
Since then I have sort of forgotten about this event as I have so-called tried and done that! Somehow this year, there were several friends participating and they had motivated me to register again but this time, only for Fun Run of 10 km. As I ran and walked on Penang Bridge again, I felt as if I was running again like that day of 8 years ago. But this time of different objective, armed with a compact camera, I was capturing moments in life.
To all my friends whom had participated or completed the Penang Bridge Run especially those taking part in marathon category, you are such a great sport. I salute you! It is not the matter of pain, it is the matter of gain. We were the kings and queens on the bridge, there was no other chance than today! Cheers and hope you enjoy the pictures!
