Teluk Bahang Dam from Laksamana Hill

The rain greeted us at dawn and threw us the first challenge. God could be at work to test our willpower. On the optimistic note, it could be a holy shower blessing our journey! Our decision by instinct was to go on.
After the chartered bus dropped us at Chin Farm, we walked along the laterite road, beside an on-going construction site into the jungle. The second challenge came soon after we passed by a small waterfall-Batu Ferringhi waterfall.

Stepping on the rocks crossing the stream without letting the shoes wet was a new skill to pick up.
The pipe that speaks!

Then, as we walked passing the fencing area, another stream flowing from the dam was awaiting as next road block.

All of us passed the first three road blocks with flying colors! Then, a walk into the jungle terrain began. Our persistence paid off as the sky was getting brighter. In addition to the relief, we saw the first ray of sunlight peeping through the forest canopy.
Direction & clues

Despite the fact that Penang is relatively a small island compared to many other islands in the world, it can offer reasonably challenging jungle trekking for avid hikers. Based on my previous experience of trekking Mount Korbu (2,183 m or 7,162 ft, 2nd highest peak in Peninsular Malaysia) and Mount Kinabalu (4095m or 13,435 ft, the highest peak in Malaysia and South East Asia), Penang Longest Trail hike is as rewarding as the former two trails in term of conquering the terrain gradient and self-endurance.

Plants in wild
Graded as difficult, it is claimed as one of the toughest trails in Penang island as this trail are made up from both ascending and descending paths with 60-70% of the trail is 45 degree slope or could be more. Most parts along this trail were shady. It was covered by canopy of green rain forest except the terrain nearing the peak of Laksamana Hill (2nd highest peak of Penang Island) where a wooden viewing platform is located.

Without much sun light penetrating through to the ground, the wet brown colored leaves made layers of bed on this path. Rope tied to metal fixture along trail facilitated to triumph over the harsh trekking terrain.

A picture tells more than a thousand words!
