If you are talking about seeing Austin from the highest point, I can assure you Mount Bonnell is the place. In fact, Mount Bonnell is one of Austin's oldest tourist attractions more than two centuries ago. Out of all the places we explored since we got here more than a week ago, Mount Bonnell is definitely the spot that we enjoyed the most. From a hundred stairs to the natural trail, we had toured both paths to reach the summit. Personally, I would recommend the natural trail composed by dirt and crushed granite. You may get started at the parking bay near to intersection of Mt Bonnell Rd and Mt Bonnell Dr.

Opting this route, you would not miss the scenic spot to catch the aerial view of beautiful water front mansions as well as the country side of Lake Austin on the north and west.

On the the other hand, if you take the official trail head which starts several yards from natural trail head, there are about 100 stairs await and would take you directly to the top in less than 10 minutes.

Popularly known as Mount Bonnell, the peak is in fact resides on Covert Park as carved on a triangular stone on the summit where the pavilion stands.

That's not all about it at Covert Park (or better known as Mount Bonnell to the locals). There is a secluded corner to steal a glimpse of spectacular vistas of Austin Downtown. And in case you are new in town and looking for a pleasant spot to stroll, hold hands, hug and cuddle with your partner, Mount Bonnell features a romantic evening to watch sunset from the highest point within Austin City Limits at 785 feet!

However, do not get too upset if you are not able to make it in the evening.
Go at anytime of the day (as the signboard says "No Parking & Towing Zone from 10 pm to 5 am") and you would still be fascinated with the breathtaking view of the Lake Austin and the water front mansions situated by its edge. Each mansion here is uniquely designed, sitting on a large greenery compound with a private pier each along Lake Austin and some were built with swimming pool as well.

Judging from readers poll in 'The Austin Chronicle' under the best outdoor and recreation category in Best of Austin 2009, Mount Bonnell emerged as the 'Best Scenic View' and apparently Austin's tunnel of love.
If you are in Austin, Mount Bonnell is definitely a spot you wouldn't want to miss! See it through your own eyes!
