At 10am sharp, MD turned up at our door. A friendly Caucasian lady in 40s (I guess), MD greeted us and made a brief introduction of herself. She later went through with us a checklist for newbies which includes social security, banking, traffic regulation, emergency/hospital, conversion tables from Imperial to SI and etc.
A glimpse of Austin Downtown from Lou Neff Point at Town Lake
Once we were done with indoor session, she drove to show us around of our neighborhood. All the routes taken would start from our apartment to the destination and back as a closed loop. This method obviously get us to familiarise faster with the surrounding roads in our area without much confusion.

We did make it to a few H.E.B. grocery stores, Milwood library, hospital, Arboretum, Lakeline Mall, Chinatown Center, Central Market and many more.
Iconic building of Austin - Capitol Building
And what we loved most was the trip to downtown whereby this time, we could see the faces of Austin city and Austinites (residents of Austin) in a bright day light.
Cowboy - symbol of Texas
As the capital of 'Lone Star State', this city was formerly called Waterloo and renamed to Austin after Stephen F. Austin, the father of Texas in early 19th century. Geographically, Austin is situated along Colorado River in Texas Hill Country and surrounded by many lakes and a network of parks. Right in the downtown itself, the most popular lake frequented by the urban folks is Lady Bird Lake (known as Town Lake to the locals though) which was named after the former first lady.
Non-motorised water sports at Town Lake
Taking advantage of humid subtropical climate, Austinites are lucky to enjoy theĀ  beauty of outdoor recreational almost yearlong with endless ways to do it. Trail walking, cycling, kayaking, canoeing, swimming and camping are among the top in the list.

Getting close to nature
Plenty of walking trails to explore
Yet on another extreme, the city of Austin is a total make over after dark, a home of live music at over 200 different venues on any given evening! Apparently, many musicians flock to Austin to showcase their talents and some places do offer free/open air live band music for you to enjoy! To get a beer and be entertained with the sounds of music, go Downtown to experience the lively 6th Street whereby it is closed to vehicles in the evening!
University of Texas - right in the heart of Austin Downtown
I have never had this picture in mind of how Austin would be and apparently, Austin offers more than what I have expected. I would call Austin the city of 'yin' and 'yang', in fact an interesting city that we are looking forward to explore and have plenty of wonderful time!

Stay tune and I am going to share with you more about this weird city.
Keep Austin Weird!
