The name Altdorf rings a bell! It sounds like Adolf and of course most of us would relate to Adolf Hilter. The association is partly correct as this is the name of a German Biergarten that we were going to have lunch.

Biergarten (in German) or beer garden is an open area where beer and food are served. Located along W. Main Street of Fredericksburg downtown, Altdorf Restaurant and Biergarten features German specialties as well as a range of appetizers, Tex-Mex entrees, Altdorf's famous burgers, sandwiches and salad. They also prepare a menu specially for kids, simply perfect if you bring the little ones along.
As we entered, I was attracted to the unique tables at the beer garden whereby it took the advantage of the old wooden barrels to hold the table top. Towards one end, there is a little stage perhaps for live performance but there was no activity when we were there in the afternoon.

We headed for a shade of an indoor dining area or the restaurant to escape from sun. Guess we have had enough while trekking on the Summit Trail at Enchanted Rock.
Formerly a church, this historic limestone building houses almost everything with German and Texas tone. From the Texas cattle brand poster, antique wall clock, old pictures to a collection of beer mugs, the ambiance is great to be in to dine. The interior was designed with several chambers so we sort of had a private corner by ourselves.
Altdorf serves German Dinners which we mistakenly thought these range of meals were only served during dinner. What happen as we were there during lunch? The friendly server still took our order though .
All the Sausage and Schnitzel Dinners on their menu are served with soup or salad and three accompaniments of your choice. You may pick any three of these: Red Cabbage, Sauerkraut, Sweet and Sour Potatoes or Spiced Noodles.
Check out some of the dishes we had here.
If you to try this soup, refer to my 'limited edition' version here.

Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I may consider going back!
