Kemah is a town in Galveston County situated about 30 miles from Houston Downtown. Originally, the town is called 'Evergreen' which was established in 1898 after Texas & New Orleans Railroad extended track lines through this area. The new town however was destroyed by hurricane two years later and it was rebuilt in 1901.

That was when 'Kemah' was born. Kemah was derived from Karankawa Indian word which means 'facing the wind', precisely describing the geography of this town that overlooks Galveston Bay.

In early days, commercial fishing, agriculture and tourism played vital roles to increase the town's population. As of census in 2000, it recorded population of 2330 people.

During our last trip to Houston and Johnson Space Center (NASA), we picked Kemah for a seafood dinner. Our friend told us to take seafood only when we could see the sea. So I guess Kemah is the place to be. And since we were at Landry's, Kemah Boardwalk was like a bonus to us! It had never came across my mind that this place is remarkably happening.

We arrived at Kemah Boardwalk after 7pm in fall and this area was already packed with people. Most designated car park were almost full and we quickly grabbed one while a few were still vacant across the Kemah Boardwalk entrance.
As it claims 'The Fun Never Stops' at Kemah Boardwalk, I saw the correlation once I got out from car. The amusement park was just right at the entrance which includes a 65-feet ferris wheel, a carousel, a gas-powered train and a roller-coaster which they called it 'Boardwalk Bullet'!
Besides the amusement park, Kemah Boardwalk also features several waterfront themed restaurants, a hotel, a few retail shops, dancing fountain and an aquarium restaurant with 50,000 gallon tank of tropical fish. We also came upon a live music stage.
Do not miss the stretch of 'Kemah Boardwalk' on wooden walkway by the sea. Strolling during the day provides the opportunity to watch the boats ply the water. There is still something to catch at night. Look down into the water especially beneath the restaurants. Thousands of catfish are living underneath this wooden walkway!
When we were there, it was the Saturday before Halloween. Oh dear! Spooky decoration was everywhere. In a dark corner, you could have just touched bloody heads and skeletons!
Plan your trip. If it coincides with the annual events namely Blessing of the Fleet (May), July 4th Parade & Fireworks, Steel Drum Lighting (Nov) and Christmas Boat Lane Parade (Dec), then the holiday is plus a bonus!
