'Dim Sum' originates from Cantonese dialect that means 'snacks' or light food. Literally means 'Touch the Heart', Dim Sum has gained popularity among Chinese community and today it sorts of a staple dining culture especially among the Chinese of southern China, Hong Kong and south-east Asia origins. Folks get together to 'yum-cha' (literally means 'drink tea') and catch up among family members.

Looking back at its origin, 'yum-cha' was developed owing to the need to rest when the Chinese travelers went on a long journey along Silk Road. Tea houses were first set up along the road and light snacks were served to these travelers before continuing their journey. Today, Dim Sum is served in elaborate manner with enormous varieties ranging from meats, dumplings, steam buns, pastries, porridge to steam/fried cakes.

Being in Houston Chinatown brought us a chance to feast at Ocean Palace which was recommended by a local Chinese friend. Ocean Palace is located in the same vicinity of Hong Kong City Mall. In fact, both facades are facing the same main road of Bellaire Blvd.
Spacious and open setting
Honestly, I was impressed with the array of food served at Ocean Palace. Choices were plenty and flavor was perfect! Even a few of the dishes featured, I can hardly find in my hometown - Penang, Malaysia! It was indeed a luxury treat for my tummy!

Check out what we got on our table.
Yum-cha = Drinking tea
Roasted Pork - crispy, crunchy & fabulous!
BBQ Pork is superb!
Fried Tofu and its by-product
White chicken feet
Brown - Beef strips; Orange - Octopus..excellent combo!
Exotic dish - Marinated ducks' tongue
Roasted Duck - tender and juicy!
In our instance, the food was sumptuous and inexpensive, service was good and overall the restaurant condition was neat and clean.
A fantastic treat!
I am going back for obvious reason!
A close-up facade to remember..chuckle!
