For Texans, LBJ is a universal abbreviation for a famous political figure hailed from Texas. He was the 36th President of The United States of America - Lyndon Baines Johnson, served between 1963 and 1969. Born on 27 August 1908 in a ranch house near Stonewall, Texas, he was as eldest son to the couple - Samuel Ealy Johnson Jr. and Rebekah Baines.

At the age of five, he and his family moved to a more comfortable house on Elm Street in Johnson City, Texas. This was the place where he broke this arm falling out of barn, played first base and pitcher on sandlot and school teams, rode a borrowed donkey to Pedernales River, and occasionally getting into trouble like any other growing up boys!

Today, this house is maintained by U.S. National Historical Park and open to public seven days a week from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. Every half an hour, a guided tour would begin to walk you through every corner of the boyhood home of LBJ.

The President lived here until his high school graduation in 1924. The home reflects a rural Texas lifestyle and is considered well-furnished at time in the early 1900s to mid 1920s. Guess it was also kind of luxurious to own a 'modern' wood-burning stove in their home kitchen!
The Visitors Center of Lyndon B. Johnson National Park is located at the intersection of Ladybird Lane and Avenue G in Johnson City, Texas which is behind LBJ Boyhood Home if one were to come from U.S. Highway 290.

The Visitors Center showcases the life of LBJ and his accomplishments, besides highlighting Great Society programs. At the same exhibition area, exhibits include a tribute to Mrs Lady Bird Johnson towards her commitment to the environment. If you have time, take the chance to watch two video that feature Mr President's administration, as well as Mrs. President's life and her contribution.

Not too far from LBJ Boyhood home is Johnson Settlement whereby the exhibits tells the story of cowboys, cattle drives and Texas frontier life. Within the same compound stands Dog-trot Cabin that served as headquarters for the cattle droving business operated by Sam and his brother Tom. If you choose not walk through the bushes to Johnson Settlement, drive down the road along U.S. Hwy 290 westbound (towards Stonewall) and there is a visitor's parking bay before Avenue N.

Getting there? LBJ Boyhood Home 100 (as captured in above picture) Elm Street, Johnson City, 78636 TX
