Homestead Heritage is a traditional crafts village located at Brazos de Dios which occupies an area of 500 acres working farm. Situated along FM933 north of Waco Downtown, this place came into picture when I was searching for a lovely venue to have lunch at Waco.

I have been pondering to visit a real farm in Texas and guess, this trip was like a dream that came true to me. We arrived at Brazos de Dios an hour past noon. A log cabin was right in front of us. Reading the crystal clear signage of 'Deli & Bakery', our senses signaled that was the destination we were going to proceed.

As we entered the Homestead Deli which is also the Visitor's Center, both dining chambers were fully occupied. We peeked and hoped that a few tables could had been done with lunch. A veteran lady approached me and asked whether we were taken care of. Then, she noted down our name to queue on the wait-list. In less than 10 minutes, we were ushered into the left-dining chamber. We sat near the kitchen and the aroma of the food served here made me even hungrier!
To begin with, we opted for a big bowl of Jalapeno Sweet Potato Soup and a piece of deep-fried raspberry pie as appetizer. Glazed with some cheese, this piece is truly fabulous!

For main entree, we decided to go for Sliced Brisket Sandwich. It was made of all-natural grass-fed beef and served hot with BBQ sauce on their whole wheat sesame bun with some sliced onions, pickle and potato chips.

There are plenty of choices for desserts ranging from cakes, breads, pies, donuts and even ice-cream. All of these are made at their community from all-natural ingredients. I had been eying on the ice-cream since the beginning so I would not want to leave the Deli with any regret. Two scoops of natural ice-cream made our dessert. The server staff spooned a couple for us to try and we finally went for carob and vanilla. Although my first choice was sorghum unfortunately it was sold out. So if I were to get there again, the first thing to do is to attack sorghum - a flavor that is hardly (perhaps never exist) available in my home country!
We love Homestead Deli and Bakery. The service, people and food - everything is excellent. I totally agree that Homestead Heritage Deli offers a delicious and nutritious meals of both unique recipes and old-fashioned standards. And don't forget to take home a few loaves of daily baked whole wheat bread!
We would love to go back again!
