My maiden flight to Hong Kong was on 6 September 2009. Although Hong Kong is only 3 hours away on a direct flight from Penang, it has never came to my thought to visit to Hong Kong until my third trip to The States recently, I experienced the transit at Hong Kong International Airport (at Lantau Island) and we touched down at about 11am.
Sitting by the aisle did not provide me much chance to catch the skyline of Hong Kong during the landing. As our plane was moving to parking bay, I noticed Hong Kong International Airport is somehow sandwiched between the scenic hilly view on one end and ocean view on the opposite end. Its surrounding is impressive! And definitely not many airports in the world have the similar scenes.

After getting off from the plane, we roamed around to search for lunch. Arriving at Level 5 of Terminal 1, we later went to Food Junction Level 6 for Dan Dan Noodles. It is situated by the edge of the airport and we did catch some nice views of the parking bay.

The ground crews at Hong Kong Airport speak relatively good English but I was rather disappointed with the limited information provided. Neither Chinese nor Cantonese is my native language so I solely depend on the information obtained from Information Booth. To live up to its elegance and sophistication, I'd think this international airport could do much better if they are able to place some kind of interactive/touch screen to guide visitors. Like for myself, I was initially recommended by my friend for lunch at a couple of nice food outlets but we were not able to locate them as the information guide is rather poor and the crews do not get the shop's name in English. We went to the extend of describing the food we wished to have!

In the end, we managed to get our way to Level 7 Food Court (Terminal 1) whereby there is the place for good and less pricey local food. If you're a food hunter like me, I'd recommend you to pick a copy of 'Shopping & Dining Fun Map' and study where you would love to head to. Otherwise, after passing the security gate and entering into the boarding halls, you are unable to go back to the shops along the arrival alleys. Food and beverages aren't expensive if you spend some time to search.
Now it is almost the season to celebrate Moon Cake Festival. Trust me, Hong Kong mooncakes are much nicer than most in Malaysia. I sort of manage to 'import' a tiny box from Hong Kong and we finished them in a day. They have plenty of other biscuits/pastries as well. One of the most famous ones is Sweetheart cake or commonly called in Cantonese as 'Low Paw Bang' or literally translated as 'Wife Biscuit'
Time to go. At about 4pm that day, we headed to our boarding gate for Los Angeles (LAX). Stay with me and see what happen in LAX next.
Food Tips: Angel, my good friend is a frequent to Hong Kong. She recommended a few nice outlets to try the local delicacy. Check them out below.
