"Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather"  ~ John Ruskin

The famous line of 'I am dreaming of a white Christmas' chorus placed us in the thought to celebrate a white Christmas in New York City (NYC) this year (2009). After putting some deep thoughts on the plan, we decided to call it off as weather would be too cold for us to enjoy ourselves in the Big Apple. Furthermore, Christmas-New Year is a holiday season with huge crowds and potential flight delays. Shops and places of attraction would be closed as well. In the end, we made up our mind to stay in Texas for Christmas but not in Austin.
White flakes welcomed us on IH-35E
Since both of us had never been to Dallas, we took this chance to see Dallas on a road trip. Departed from Austin on Christmas Eve mid morning, we expected a light shower in the morning and a sunny afternoon when we reached Cedar Hill State Park, near Grand Prairie, Texas.
The snowing sight at New York Ave (Arlington) not NYC
People say  'Snowflakes are kisses from heaven'. I caught the first sight of tiny flakes after our bio break somewhere near Italy, a town on IH-35E to Dallas. I told my Significant Other what I saw as soon as he got into the car but he said they were just tiny shower drops and not snowflakes. "But the wind chill temperature is possibly below 0 degree Celsius", he added while rubbing his hands to generate some heat.

We continued our journey in a moderate shower. The sky was white and there was no hope that sunshine would interfere at all. Road was getting wetter and vehicles were moving slower. Unexpected, we were greeted by white flakes which in fact were brushing our windscreen! It was snowing! Yoohooo..
A dream came true. Woke up on white Christmas morning!
Our perfect stay at Baymont Inn
Thrilled stepping on huge white carpet..
Phew...the ice cracked! I almost slided after landing my foot on icy road
Wow..a long white passage

Icy driveway
Since the weather was not permitting for outdoor activity, we swiftly changed our destination to Arlington instead of Cedar Hill State Park. It would be crazy if we were to go picnic at this temperature. We opted for Hong Kong Market Place - an indoor Asian grocery store on Pioneer Parkway for shopping and subsequently checked in our hotel in Arlington which was located adjacent to Six Flags amusement park.

It was a freezing cold night!
Our sedan was an ice maker...the water in tumbler turned into ice
We spent our evening in the hotel. Initially we thought of driving through Prairie Light and attending a church service. Guess God decided that we ought to stay at the hotel watching the falling white flakes from our windows.

To us, it was a magical evening of Christmas Eve!

The good thing was the lodging came with high speed internet access on complimentary basis. We were connected to the 'outside' world although the fact was we were hibernating in a hotel room!
Good spot to make snowman!
With several hours of snowstorm in north Texas and forecasted below freezing temperature at night, it was certainly that we were promised for a white Christmas this year!
Aren't these ducks feeling cold barefooting on ice?

God, we thank You for Your blessing. It was like a dream came true. This is indeed one of the best Christmas gifts from You.
